This is the privacy policy for Waste Free Daily (wastefreedaily.com). It explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, how advertising on our site works, and what your rights are. We’ve tried to write it in plain English so it can be read without a law degree. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch.

Who we are

Waste Free Daily is an independent editorial publication operated by the Waste Free Daily editorial team. For any privacy-related question, you can reach us at [email protected] or through our contact page.

What we collect

We collect very little. In the normal course of using the website, the information that may be collected includes:

  • Anonymous analytics, pages viewed, country (not city), referring site, and rough device type. This helps us understand which articles need updating and which pages load too slowly. No personally identifying data is recorded here.
  • Contact form submissions, when you send us a message via the contact form, we store the name, email address, subject, and message until the conversation is complete. We delete these within 12 months unless we are required to keep them for legal reasons.
  • Newsletter subscriptions, if you sign up for our newsletter, we keep your email address and the date you subscribed. You can unsubscribe with one click and we’ll delete the address.
  • Comments and replies, if and when comments are enabled, we keep the name, email, and message you submit, along with your IP address for spam prevention.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a minimal set of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies, required for the site to load and function correctly.
  • Analytics cookies, used for anonymous traffic measurement.
  • Functional cookies, set when you log in or post a comment.
  • Advertising cookies, when we display advertising, third-party advertising partners (including Google AdSense and similar networks) may place cookies, web beacons, or use similar technologies to deliver, measure, and personalise the ads you see. These partners may also collect information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and previous interactions with ads, in line with their own privacy policies.

Advertising Personalization Controls

When we display ads on Waste Free Daily, advertising partners, most notably Google, may use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads that are more relevant to your interests. We want you to be in control of this.

You can manage, customise, or completely turn off personalised advertising at any time using Google’s official tools:

From these pages you can:

  • Turn off ad personalisation entirely.
  • Adjust the topics, categories, and brands you see ads for.
  • Review the data Google uses to personalise your advertising experience.
  • Manage ads across YouTube, Google Search, and partner sites such as ours.

If you would also like to opt out of personalised advertising from other ad networks across the wider web, you can use industry-wide tools such as the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page or the Your Online Choices tool for European users.

Turning off personalisation does not stop ads, you will still see them, but the ads will be less tailored to your individual interests.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of third parties to keep the site running:

  • Web hosting and content delivery network (CDN)
  • Email delivery for newsletters and contact replies
  • Analytics
  • Advertising networks, including Google AdSense (when ads are active)

Each of these has its own privacy policy and processes the minimum data needed for its specific role.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Ask what personal data we hold about you
  • Correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Delete your data entirely
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your data
  • Withdraw your consent at any time for activities based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Privacy request.” We respond to verified requests within 30 days.

International users

Waste Free Daily is read by a global audience. Wherever you are reading from, the rights set out above apply to the extent local law requires. If a stricter law in your region grants you additional rights, those rights also apply.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Substantial changes will also be flagged in our newsletter and on the homepage for a minimum of seven days. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
